Practical tips
Editorial- Buy the reusable navegante occasional card for 0.50 euros at any Metro machine and load zapping at 1.72 euros a journey instead of paying 3.30 euros onboard a tram.
- Take the Metro Red Line from Humberto Delgado Airport for 1.90 euros rather than a taxi, which costs several times more.
- Book a Torre de Belem timed slot ahead of arrival, because entry is capped at 60 people per 30 minutes and 900 per day, Tuesday to Sunday, with last entry at 17:00.
- Ride tram 12E or a parallel bus rather than 28E, which is where most visitors who get pickpocketed in Lisbon get pickpocketed.
- Budget 17 euros for adult entry to Castelo de Sao Jorge, and buy only through the castle's authorised BOL ticketing page or the on-site ticket office.
- Decline the couvert of bread and olives if you do not want it, since it is charged to the bill, and expect the 4 euro per person nightly tourist tax at checkout.
