Practical tips

Editorial
  • Buy Jardin Majorelle and Musée Yves Saint Laurent tickets in advance at tickets.jardinmajorelle.com, because they are sold online only and the garden's last entry is 6pm.
  • Budget 100 dirhams per foreign adult for each of Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs, and carry small notes since ticket desks handle cash poorly.
  • Ben Youssef Madrasa costs foreign adults 50 dirhams and opens 9am to 7pm, but closes at 4.30pm during Ramadan, so check the dates before planning a late visit.
  • Insist on the meter in a petit taxi, and if the driver claims it is broken, get out and take the next one, as meters are legally required.
  • Visit between March and April or late September and mid-November, because July and August average highs of 37.7C make midday sightseeing genuinely unsafe for many people.
  • Never accept an unsolicited offer of directions inside the medina, and if hassle turns aggressive, ask for the Brigade Touristique, who patrol Jemaa el-Fna.
