Marrakech tourist tax 2026: 10 to 25 dirhams per night in a five star hotel

Moroccan law bands the taxe de sejour at 10 to 25 dirhams per person per night for five star hotels and riads, and 15 to 30 for guesthouses and luxury hotels.

Morocco bands its taxe de sejour by law and lets each commune fix the exact figure inside the band. For a five star hotel the band is 10 to 25 dirhams per person per night, and for guesthouses, congress centres and luxury hotels it is 15 to 30 dirhams, in the local taxation law text published by the Treasury of the Kingdom of Morocco. Riads and houses let to tourists sit in the same 10 to 25 dirham band as five star hotels.

The rest of the scale

Four star hotels are 5 to 10 dirhams, three star 3 to 7, and one and two star 2 to 5. Tourist residences are 3 to 7 dirhams and holiday villages 5 to 10. The law says the tax is due per person and per night, comes on top of the room price, must be shown separately on the invoice, and is paid over to the commune quarterly. Children under 12 years are exempt.

A worked example

Two adults in a Marrakech riad for four nights face somewhere between 80 and 200 dirhams of tourist tax in 2026, depending on where inside the band the commune has set its rate. At the top of the band that is 200 dirhams, which on a modest riad is close to a full extra night.

What is still unclear

The national law fixes the bands, not the rate. The exact dirham figure applied in Marrakech is a communal decision that is not published in the national text, so the only reliable number for a given hotel is the one printed on its invoice.
