Location: our core promise

RuinMyTrip never shares your precise or real-time location. Travel plans are shown at destination and date-range level only, and only when you opt in. You choose per-plan visibility: public, followers, or private.

What we collect

Account details (username, email, date of birth for age verification), content you post, and basic usage data needed to run the service.

How we use it

To operate the community, show your content, power “who's going” discovery at the destination level, and keep the platform safe.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal data. We don't broadcast live location. We don't expose your exact address or coordinates.

Measurement

We count how the site is used with our own software on our own servers. There is no third party analytics service here, nothing is sold or shared, and nothing follows you to other sites. What we keep is a count of things that happened: a destination page was opened, a follow was pressed, a question was posted. Those records carry no name, no account, no email, no address, no browser details, no referring site and none of the words you wrote.

Two cookies make those counts add up rather than double. Your session links the steps of one visit together. A cookie named rmt_v, sixteen random characters, lets us tell that a browser has been here before, so "how many people came back" is a number we can answer. It is random: it is not made from anything about you, it is not connected to your account, and clearing your cookies gives you a new one and makes you new to us.

Your controls

Edit or delete your content and plans, control who can see your travel dates, block users, and request account deletion at any time.

Asking us for something

A copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion of your account: ask through contact and choose "a privacy request". You can also delete your own content and account from your settings at any time without asking anybody.

Safety data

Reports and blocks are used by moderators to keep the community safe and may be retained for enforcement.
