From Porto, the Douro Valley wine day is the classic trip to share. Porto is also a starting point for the Portuguese route of the Camino de Santiago, and walkers often look for company on the first stages.

Spring and early autumn are ideal. June is festival month: Lisbon celebrates Santo António on the night of 12 to 13 June and Porto celebrates São João on the night of 23 to 24 June, with street parties that are far better in a group.
