Travel buddies in Bali
Bali is small enough that everyone ends up in the same few places, and big enough that a day with a shared driver is the best way to see it.

How people pair up in Bali
Hiring a driver for the whole day is how most people see Bali: rice terraces, temples and waterfalls in one loop. It is a natural thing to split with one or two other travelers. The sunrise trek up Mount Batur starts in the dark and is more fun with company, and the fast boat to Nusa Penida and the islands is another popular shared day. Canggu and Ubud also have large communities of remote workers who are happy to meet people.
When people go
The dry season, roughly April to October, is the most popular time. The wet season brings heavy afternoon showers but fewer people. Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, usually in March, shuts the whole island for a day, including the airport, so check the date if your trip is in March.
Where travelers meet
Beach clubs and sunset spots in Seminyak and Canggu, yoga studios and cafes in Ubud, and coworking spaces. For a first meetup, a busy cafe or a beach at sunset is ideal.
Getting a good match
- Post which part of Bali you are staying in. Ubud, Canggu, Seminyak and Uluwatu are different trips.
- A shared driver day is the easiest thing to ask a buddy for.
- Traveling in March? Check when Nyepi falls, because the island stops for a day.
