Practical tips
Editorial- Renting a scooter costs around Rp50,000 a day for a basic 125cc, but Indonesia legally requires an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle endorsement (about $25) plus your home license; skipping it can void travel insurance.
- The Rp150,000 tourist levy (about $9 to $10) introduced February 14, 2024 is technically mandatory, but by mid-2026 airport payment counters have been removed and it is not checked on arrival, so pay it online in advance if you want to comply.
- Budget a real beach club tab: at Ku De Ta on Jalan Laksmana, soft drinks run about Rp20,000 and cocktails start near Rp70,000, and Potato Head requires reserving a day bed ahead of time for sunset.
- Avoid Jalan Laksmana during peak traffic hours, it is a known congestion black spot in Seminyak; walking or a scooter beats a car or taxi for short hops.
- Visit outside peak wet season rains if possible, heavy rain washes agricultural runoff and garbage onto south Bali beaches, a recurring problem serious enough that officials ran a major beach clean up at Kuta and Kedonganan in February 2026.
