A Hundred and Ninety Rooms Inside a Listed National Monument
Review of Pestana Palace Lisboa
Been to Lisbon? This page needs you more than it needs us.
A first-hand review outranks desk research every time, and yours will sit above this one.
Share your experiencePestana Palace Lisboa has 190 rooms and suites. Check-in is from 3:00 p.m. and check-out until 12:00 p.m. Nightly rates are not published as a fixed figure and move with season and availability, so treat the current rate as something to request rather than something we can quote. The hotel is a nineteenth-century palace in Alcantara, classified as a national monument, with a domed entrance hall, a monumental staircase and French-style gardens that are part of the listing. There is a swimming pool, the Casa do Lago restaurant and a spa in the grounds. It is a genuine palace rather than a hotel styled as one, which is the distinction that matters here and the reason the public rooms are worth walking through even if you are not staying.
What was great
An actual listed palace with gardens, not a pastiche. A hundred and ninety rooms, so it has the staffing of a full resort. A pool and spa in the grounds, which almost nothing central in Lisbon offers.
What nearly ruined the trip
Alcantara is west of the centre, so everything is a taxi or a tram ride. The scale means it can feel more like a resort than a city hotel. No published rate card, so budgeting means asking.
