Practical tips
Editorial- Book Last Supper tickets the moment a new quarterly release window opens; the Sept-Dec 2026 window opened June 23, 2026 at noon via cenacolovinciano.vivaticket.it, and popular dates go fast.
- Buy Duomo rooftop tickets online in advance at ticket.duomomilano.it: stairs access is 16 euros full price (8 reduced) and elevator access is 18 euros full (9 reduced), both cheaper than the 28-euro fast-track elevator option.
- Skip single 2.20-euro ATM tickets if you are making more than a few trips; a 24-hour transit pass is 7.60 euros and a 3-day pass is 15.50 euros.
- Take the Malpensa Express train, 15 euros one way and about 52 minutes, instead of a taxi from Malpensa Airport unless traveling as a group; if you do take a taxi, ask for the fixed fare, around 70 euros to Malpensa, rather than the meter.
- Do not book a Milan hotel blind: Fashion Week, Salone del Mobile, and one-off events like the February 6-22, 2026 Winter Olympics can push average nightly rates well over double the normal price, so check the trade fair and event calendar before picking dates.
- Keep bags zipped and phones out of back pockets around the Duomo and Centrale station specifically; UK government travel advice flags these as classic pickpocketing hotspots in Italian city centers.
