Milan tourist tax 2026: 12 euro per night in five star hotels from 1 April

What the rate is

Milan charges 12.00 euro per person per night in five star hotels from 1 April 2026, according to the Comune di Milano's own tourist tax page. The city says resolution number 144 of 12 February 2026 redefined the rates for the whole of 2026 with effect from 1 April. The published schedule runs 3.00 euro for one star hotels, 4.00 euro for two star, 7.00 euro for three star, 10.00 euro for four star and 12.00 euro for five star. Accommodation outside the hotel category is listed separately: 9.50 euro for bed and breakfasts, holiday apartments and short term rentals under Legislative Decree 50/2017, 7.00 euro for holiday homes, and 3.00 euro for youth hostels and open air sites. The tax applies per person and per day of stay.

What a stay actually costs

Two people, four nights, one four star hotel. The rate is 10.00 euro per person per night, so the tax is 10.00 times 2 times 4, or 80 euro added to the room price. The same trip booked as a short term rental costs 9.50 times 2 times 4, which is 76 euro. In a three star hotel it is 56 euro, and in a hostel 24 euro.

Why 2026 has two schedules

An earlier schedule, approved by resolution 1418 of 13 November 2025 and in force from 1 January 2026, was lower at the top: 10.00 euro for both four and five star hotels and 7.40 euro for three star. What a traveller pays therefore depends on whether the stay falls before or after 1 April 2026. What the city page does not settle is whether the April schedule expires at the end of 2026.
