Share your experienceThe Pinacoteca di Brera charges 20.00 euros for a full Grande Brera ticket and 4.00 euros reduced for visitors aged 18 to 25. Audioguides are 5.00 euros and radioguides 2.00 euros. The collection is northern Italian painting at its peak: Piero della Francesca's Brera Madonna, Mantegna's Dead Christ seen from the soles of the feet, Raphael's Marriage of the Virgin, Caravaggio's Supper at Emmaus, Bellini, Tintoretto, Veronese. Any one of them would anchor a museum. It shares a seventeenth-century palazzo with the art academy, so the courtyard is full of students, and the recently opened Palazzo Citterio next door extends the ticket into the twentieth century.
What was great
The Mantegna and the Piero della Francesca in adjacent rooms. Four euros for anyone aged 18 to 25, which is close to a gift. Far quieter than the Duomo two streets away.
What nearly ruined the trip
Twenty euros is at the top of the Italian range for a picture gallery. The hang assumes you know your Renaissance schools. The Brera district around it is expensive enough that lunch afterwards costs as much as the ticket.
