Share your experienceThe Duomo sells tickets by what you want to see. The complete visit, covering the cathedral interior, the terraces and the museum, starts from 22 euros full price and 11 euros reduced. A cathedral and museum ticket without the terraces starts from 8 euros full and 4 reduced, and the terraces alone start from 16 euros full and 8 reduced. The terraces are the reason to pay the full price. You walk on the roof, among the flying buttresses and the 135 spires, close enough to see the carving on statues that were never meant to be looked at from below. There is no other cathedral in Europe where you can do this. The interior is vast and dim and worth an hour, but the roof is what people remember for the rest of their lives.
What was great
Walking on the roof among the spires, which nowhere else offers. A reduced price of 11 euros for the complete visit. The stained glass in the apse, which is the best in Italy.
What nearly ruined the trip
The ticket structure is genuinely confusing and there are at least five combinations. The queue for the terraces at midday in summer is brutal. Bare shoulders and knees are refused at the door and people arrive dressed for a hot day.
