Miami in 2026: The Beach Is Free, Everything Around It Is Not

Base yourself on the mainland if you are here for the city. Brickell or downtown puts you on the free Metromover, which runs every 90 seconds at peak and costs nothing, and a causeway ride from the beach costs less than the nightly difference in room rate.
Do not rent a car for a beach trip. Miami Beach hotels charge for parking nightly on top of the room, street parking is metered and app based, and on peak March weekends the island restricts vehicle entry and forces exits at 5th Street.
Eat away from the water. The further inland you go the better and cheaper it gets, and a Cubano from a counter with no seating beats most sit down meals within sight of the Atlantic.
The beach is alcohol free and smoke free all year, not only during spring break, and so is bringing coolers, glass, tents or amplified music onto the sand. This is enforced rather than posted and ignored.
Walk Ocean Drive once at night for the neon, then do the actual Art Deco district on Collins and Washington, where the same architecture comes without the sidewalk hawkers.
Wynwood Walls is ticketed and the twenty blocks around it are not. Walk NW 2nd Avenue first and decide whether you still want the curated version.
Price the season honestly. December to April is dry, warm and expensive; August to October is hurricane season; late April, May and November are the value and are genuinely pleasant.
