Nassau in 2026: a record 12.5 million Bahamas visitors, 86.5 per cent of them cruise passengers, and a Level 2 US advisory naming the city

By RuinMyTrip Editorial

The Bahamas had the biggest year in its history in 2025: a record 12.5 million visitors, up 11.4 per cent year on year and more than 70 per cent above 2019. Almost all of that growth is cruise. Sea arrivals passed 10.6 million, up 14 per cent and close to double the 2019 figure, and cruise passengers accounted for 86.5 per cent of all arrivals. Practical tips

Editorial
  • Check the cruise schedule before you plan a day in town. Nassau has taken more than 30,500 cruise guests ashore in a single day, and Bay Street on a four-ship day is a different city from Bay Street on a one-ship day.
  • Stay overnight if you can. Only about 1.8 million of the country's 12.5 million 2025 visitors were stopover guests, and the city after the ships leave is the one worth being in.
  • Eat at Arawak Cay rather than in the port district. The fish fry is where residents eat and the price difference against Bay Street is large.
  • Read the US State Department advisory rather than assuming. The Bahamas is Level 2, exercise increased caution, with Nassau and Freeport named as the areas where violent crime concentrates.
  • Be cautious with jet ski and water sports operators, and use a hotel-arranged or well-reviewed operator rather than a beach approach.
  • Get off New Providence for at least a day. The water quality and the beaches improve enormously once you are away from the port, and the boat trips are the best money you will spend here.

The editorial review above is desk research. What this page actually needs is somebody who went. If that is you, the honest version, including the part that went wrong, is worth more here than a polished one.

  1. Rate it out of five, plus safety and value.
  2. Say what was great, in specifics.
  3. Say what nearly ruined the trip. This field is required.
