Practical tips
Editorial- Walk the city walls at opening (9am, extended to 7pm May through mid-October) or in late afternoon; midday in summer means both peak heat and peak crowds on a route with almost no shade.
- Budget 40 euros per adult and 15 euros per child aged 7 to 18 for the wall walk (under 7s free); if you also want museums, compare against the 40 to 60 euro summer Dubrovnik Pass, which throws in unlimited city buses.
- Prices run higher than they did before January 2023, when Croatia adopted the euro; hospitality and food were the categories hit hardest by the currency changeover, so double-check menu prices rather than assuming Balkan-budget rates.
- If you're chasing Game of Thrones filming spots, prioritize Fort Lovrijenac, the city walls themselves, and a side trip to Lokrum island by ferry, these were the primary King's Landing locations across the show's run.
- Don't drag a wheeled suitcase through the Old Town at night; the city banned it in 2023 specifically to cut down on noise complaints, and it is enforced.
- A local bus ticket costs 1.73 euros bought at a kiosk (valid one hour, unlimited transfers) versus 2.50 euros bought on board for a single ride; a 24 hour pass is 5.31 euros if you're base-hopping to Lapad beach or the bus station.
