A single ticket bought at a kiosk costs 1.73 euros and covers an hour with unlimited transfers, while paying on board costs 2.50 euros for one ride only; a 24 hour pass at 5.31 euros makes sense if you're heading out to Lapad's car-free beach or arriving via the ferry and bus terminals near Port Gruz, which sits roughly 2.5 kilometres from the Old Town gates. Taxis and ride-share apps like Bolt and Uber also operate throughout the city if buses feel like one more logistics puzzle on vacation.

Timing your visit around the cruise ship and wall-crowd cycle matters more in Dubrovnik than almost anywhere else in Europe, because the city itself has publicly grappled with overtourism since at least 2017, when it started capping rampart visitor numbers and drawing up cruise ship dock limits after UNESCO raised the possibility of pulling its World Heritage status. Early morning, right at the 9am wall opening, or the last couple of hours before closing (as late as 7pm May through mid-October) are your best windows to avoid both the heat and the worst crowds.

On money, remember Croatia has used the euro exclusively since 1 January 2023 at a fixed rate of 7.5345 kuna to the euro, so there is no leftover kuna economy to exploit for savings, and hospitality prices specifically rose in the changeover.
