Practical tips
Editorial- Book Grand Egyptian Museum tickets online in advance only; walk-up purchases stopped when the museum moved to online-only, timed-entry ticketing in December 2025.
- Bring a physical credit or debit card for Giza and museum admission; official ticket windows at major sites have gone largely card-only and often will not accept cash pounds.
- Budget separately for pyramid interiors: 700 EGP covers general Giza admission, but entering Khufu's Great Pyramid costs an additional 1,000 EGP per foreign adult, Khafre is 280 EGP extra and Menkaure is 200 EGP extra.
- Decline any unsolicited 'free' photo, gift or camel-ride offer at the plateau immediately and firmly; the price-switch scam where a cheap-quoted camel or horse ride balloons tenfold once you're mounted is still commonly reported.
- Apply for the e-visa only at the official visa2egypt.gov.eg portal; Egypt raised e-visa fees in 2026 to 30 dollars for single entry and 65 dollars for multiple entry, and third-party sites will overcharge on top of that.
- Visit between October and March for daytime temperatures around 14 to 22 Celsius; summer months regularly push past 34 to 40 Celsius and coincide with worse smog days in the city center.
