After more than 140 years the basilica reached its final height of 172.5 metres when the upper arm of the cross on the central Tower of Jesus Christ was installed on 20 February 2026, making it the tallest church in the world, past Ulm Minster's roughly 162 metres in October 2025. What you queue for is no longer a building site with a good gift shop. It is a completed exterior. The price has moved with the fame. General entry is 26,00 euros at the official box office and 36,00 with tower access. Seniors pay 21,00 and 28,00, and under-30s and student card holders pay 24,00 and 34,00. Disabled visitors and their companions pay only for additional services, with general entrance free.
What was great
It is finished, and the difference is visible from the street. The interior light through the nave columns is why the building survives its own crowds, and the tower climb is the only way to see detail Gaudi put where he assumed nobody would stand. The official site sells direct, so there is no reason to pay a reseller.
What nearly ruined the trip
Twenty-six euros is the entry, not the total: towers are ten more and a guided tour is 30. Timed entry means a missed slot is a missed visit. Resellers dominate search results and quote well above the official rate for the same ticket, so people routinely pay a premium for nothing at all.
