It opened in 1836 and has the seven doors along the front that give it its name. The floor is chequered marble, the walls are hung with brass plaques marking where particular regulars sat, and the room has been serving without interruption for nearly two centuries. Rice is the reason to come. The paellas and arroz dishes are the house speciality and each day of the week has its own, which is worth checking before you choose a date rather than after.
What was great
A dining room continuously open since 1836, with the original marble and the regulars' plaques still on the walls. Rice dishes that change by the day of the week. Long hours, so a late lunch is genuinely possible.
What nearly ruined the trip
It is on the tourist circuit near the port and the service can be brisk about it. Portions are large and priced accordingly. The room is grand rather than intimate, and on a busy night it is loud.
