Editorial- Buy the no-deposit Tourist Octopus for HK$39 if you do not want to deal with reclaiming the HK$50 deposit on the standard HK$150 On-Loan Octopus before you fly out.
- Tap into the Airport Express with an Octopus card instead of buying a counter ticket, it drops the Hong Kong Station fare from HK$130 to HK$120.
- Assume any device you carry can be searched: as of March 23, 2026 refusing to give police your phone or laptop password is a criminal offense with up to six months in jail, so travel with only what you are comfortable unlocking.
- If you hold an Indian passport, complete the free Pre-Arrival Registration online before you fly, it is required in addition to the 14-day visa-free allowance and now covers applicants as young as 7.
- Skip hotel restaurants for cha chaan teng diners, a full local meal runs about HK$58 to HK$120 versus HK$1,500-plus per person at fine dining spots.
