- Carry a physical yellow fever vaccination card (the ICVP yellow card) dated at least 10 days before you land; Port Health officials check it at a separate checkpoint at Kotoka International Airport before you reach immigration, and it applies to every traveler regardless of nationality.
- Skip the curbside taxi touts at Kotoka Airport, who commonly quote 300 to 600 cedis for rides that should run 50 to 120 cedis; withdraw cash at the indoor ATMs near customs, then book an Uber or Bolt from the seated waiting area instead.
- Track the cedi rather than assuming a fixed exchange rate; it traded around 11.41 to the US dollar in early May 2026 after depreciating about 8.4 percent since January of that year, so any dollar price quoted here or elsewhere is a moving target.
- Expect a two-tier foreigner price at paid heritage sites: Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park charges non-Ghanaian adults 100 cedis versus 25 cedis for citizens, and Cape Coast and Elmina castles have similarly split, inconsistently published fees, so confirm the number at the ticket window itself.
