Practical tips
Editorial- Book Burj Khalifa At the Top tickets 30+ days out and for non-prime hours (AED 149 to 169) rather than sunset slots (AED 224 to 244) to cut the price roughly in half.
- Avoid outdoor sightseeing from June through August, when afternoon temperatures average 31 to 41C and can spike to 48C with 60 to 80 percent humidity; plan outdoor time for early morning or after sunset instead.
- Alcohol is fine in licensed hotel bars and restaurants, but never drink in public, on the beach, or in a park; it's a criminal offense in Dubai, not just a fine, and public intoxication can lead to arrest.
- Budget for the Tourism Dirham hotel fee, AED 7 to 20 per room per night depending on the property, charged separately from your room rate and non-refundable.
- Get a Silver Nol card (AED 25, includes AED 19 of travel credit) on arrival; a metro ride across the city costs a few dirhams versus AED 60 to 70 for the same trip by taxi.
- Check the current UAE visa on arrival list before booking. As of June 2026 it covers more nationalities, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa, but only if you already hold a valid residence permit from a qualifying country like the US, UK, EU, or Canada; otherwise apply for a visit visa in advance.
