Practical tips
Editorial- Book the Parks Canada shuttle the moment the 60 percent seat release drops at 8 a.m. MDT exactly two days before your date, because the April 15 launch batch is long gone by summer.
- If you visit between June 19 and September 7, 2026, park admission is free under the Canada Strong Pass, so skip the CAD 12.25 daily pass and put the money toward the CAD 12.75 shuttle ticket instead.
- Park free at the Train Station lot's 500 stalls rather than paying CAD 12 an hour downtown, and note the nine-hour limit applies.
- The Lake Louise lakeshore lot costs CAD 42 per vehicle per day from May 15 to October 12 and is typically full before sunrise, so use the free Park and Ride at 1 Whitehorn Road.
- Carry bear spray on every trail and know how to use it, since Banff holds both grizzly and black bears and the Bow Valley montane is prime spring habitat.
- Do not plan an early morning or evening drive on the Bow Valley Parkway between March 1 and June 25, when the 17 km section east of Johnston Canyon Campground is open only from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
