Share your experienceTa Karamanlidika tou Fani opens Monday to Saturday, restaurant 12:00 to 23:00 and retail 08:00 to 21:00, and closes on Sundays. Handmade mastiha halva is 9.00 euros on the shop side. It is a charcuterie shop first and a restaurant second, which is the whole point: the pastirma, sausages and cheeses on the plates come off the counter you walked past, and the staff will cut and explain anything you point at. The food is Anatolian Greek, from the Karamanlides of Cappadocia, and it is a different tradition from the taverna cooking most visitors eat. Order the pastirma with eggs and a plate of cheeses and stop trying to plan further than that.
What was great
A working deli counter you order directly from. Anatolian Greek cooking you will not find in the tourist tavernas. Late restaurant hours and an early shop, so it works for lunch, dinner or a takeaway.
What nearly ruined the trip
Closed Sundays, which catches weekend visitors. It is small and busy and the tables are tight. Being next to the meat market means the surrounding streets are not pretty.
