Share your experienceThe National WWII Museum sells general admission starting at $27, an Essentials package starting at $36 that adds the Beyond All Boundaries 4D cinematic experience, and a Best Value package starting at $39 that adds the Freedom Theater experience as well. It is the official museum of the Second World War in the United States and it occupies several buildings across a campus in the Warehouse District. The aircraft hanging in the Boeing Center, the D-Day exhibition and the Road to Berlin and Road to Tokyo galleries are all substantial, and the whole thing takes far longer than people plan for. The presentation is unashamedly emotional, with personal dog tags issued at the entrance that follow one service member's story through the galleries. It works, and it is worth knowing in advance that it is designed to.
What was great
Enormous scope for twenty-seven dollars, real aircraft and vehicles rather than models, and a dog tag device that turns a survey into one person's war. The campus is genuinely well organised.
What nearly ruined the trip
The upsell is relentless: three package tiers, extra experiences and a submarine simulator, all priced separately. It needs a full day and most visitors give it three hours. The tone is celebratory in a way that flattens some of the harder history.
