Share your experienceThe New Orleans Museum of Art charges adults $18 for Louisiana residents and $23 for out-of-state visitors, with seniors aged 65 and up at $13 and $18 and university students with ID at $11 and $16. Youth aged 19 and under enter free regardless of where they live. The collection is stronger than a city this size has any right to expect: French painting, a serious photography holding, Japanese and African art, and a decorative arts collection built on New Orleans money from the cotton and shipping years. The Besthoff Sculpture Garden beside it is free, covers eleven acres of live oaks and lagoons in City Park, and is one of the best public spaces in the American South.
What was great
Free for everyone aged 19 and under. The Besthoff Sculpture Garden, free and genuinely beautiful. A collection with real depth in photography and French painting.
What nearly ruined the trip
Out-of-state visitors pay five dollars more than residents for the same museum. City Park is a long way from the Quarter and the streetcar takes its time. The building is grand but the galleries are conventional.
