Share your experienceThe Acropolis Museum charges 20 euros general admission and 10 euros reduced. Those are the summer rates, running 1 April to 31 October; the winter season from 1 November to 31 March is cheaper at 15,00 euros general, with the reduced rate staying at 10,00. The museum was built to make a point. The top floor, the Parthenon Gallery, is oriented on exactly the same axis as the Parthenon itself, which stands visible through the glass a few hundred metres uphill. The surviving sculptures are mounted at their original spacing and height. Where a piece is in London rather than Athens, a plain white cast stands in its place. Walking that colonnade, with the original building in the window and the gaps marked in blank plaster, is the most effective argument in the Elgin Marbles dispute that either side has made. You are not told what to think; you are shown the holes.
What was great
The Parthenon Gallery is a genuinely brilliant piece of museum design, and the sightline to the actual Parthenon through the glass does work no label could. The excavated ancient neighbourhood under the glass floor at the entrance is included. Winter admission drops to 15 euros, and there are several free admission days each year.
What nearly ruined the trip
Twenty euros is on top of the separate ticket for the Acropolis itself, so seeing both is a real outlay. The building is busy from mid-morning through the afternoon in season. The reduced rate stays at 10 euros in winter while the general rate falls, which narrows the concession when the museum is quietest.
