Share your experienceThe Gallerie dell'Accademia charges a full price of 20,00 euros, with reduced admission of 2,00 euros for young persons who are EU citizens aged 18 to 25, and free entry for under 18s. That 2 euro rate is not a typo and it is not a promotion. It is the standard Italian state museum concession, and it makes this one of the cheapest ways in Europe for a young traveller to stand in front of Giorgione, Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese in the city where they worked. The collection is the definitive account of Venetian painting from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, and it is housed in a former religious complex at the foot of the Accademia bridge. It is also, reliably, the emptiest major attraction in Venice, because the crowd is at San Marco.
What was great
The most important collection of Venetian painting anywhere, in the city that produced it. Twenty euros full price and 2 euros for EU citizens aged 18 to 25 is remarkable. It is genuinely quiet compared to everything else in Venice, so you can stand in front of things for as long as you want.
What nearly ruined the trip
Twenty euros is real money if you do not qualify for the concession and are already paying Venice prices for everything else. The labelling is sparse and largely assumes you know the painters. Booking online is through a single authorised operator, which catches people out.
