Share your experiencePalazzo Ducale charges 35.00 euros for a standard ticket and 15.00 euros reduced, dropping to 30.00 euros standard if bought online in advance. It opens 09:00 to 19:00 from 1 April to 31 October, with last admission at 18:00, and 09:00 to 18:00 in winter. The ticket is not only for the palace. It covers the Musei di Piazza San Marco, so the Correr Museum and the archaeological museum come with it, which changes the value calculation considerably if you use them. Inside, the sequence that matters is the Doge's apartments, the enormous Sala del Maggior Consiglio with Tintoretto's Paradise, and then the Bridge of Sighs into the prisons, walked in the direction the condemned walked. It is the best-preserved seat of a vanished republic in Europe.
What was great
Five euros saved by booking online, and one ticket covering three museums on the square. Tintoretto's Paradise is the largest old master painting in the world and the room does it justice. The prison route is genuinely atmospheric.
What nearly ruined the trip
Thirty-five euros at the door is among the highest museum prices in Italy, and Piazza San Marco in July is a scrum from the moment it opens. The one-way route means you cannot go back for a second look, and the Bridge of Sighs is a two-second shuffle in a queue.
