Porto tourist tax 2026: 3 euros per person per night, capped at 7 nights

Porto charges a municipal tourist tax of 3 euros per guest per night in 2026, up to a maximum of seven consecutive nights. The city council's own leaflet states that the value of the tax is "3 euros por dormida, ate um maximo de 7 (sete) noites seguidas". The current rate took effect on 1 December 2024 under the new municipal regulation.

Who does not pay

The council lists exemptions for children and young people aged 12 or under, for stays caused by a medical procedure with up to two companions, for people with a disability of 60 percent or more with two companions, for pilgrims on their first night in a pilgrim hostel in the city, and for asylum seekers temporarily displaced from their home countries. Proof is required in every case.

What a stay costs

Two adults on a four night city break pay 3 euros each per night, so 24 euros added to the bill. A couple staying ten nights pays for seven nights only, which is 42 euros rather than 60. Hotels and registered short term rentals both collect it.

What is still unclear

The council has discussed raising the tax to 4 euros, but no official page we found sets a date, so 3 euros is the figure to budget for.
