Nice tourist tax 2026: 6.43 euro a night at the top, 2.28 euro in a three star hotel

The published rates

Nice charges 6.43 euro per person per night at the top of its scale in 2026. Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur, which has collected the tax since 2019, publishes a sheet headed "Tourist tax rates per person per night as from 1st January 2026". Every line is a metropolitan rate plus a 34 percent additional tax earmarked for the Ligne Nouvelle Provence Côte d'Azur rail project. Palaces are 4.80 plus 1.63, a total of 6.43 euro. Five star hotels, aparthotels and furnished rentals are 3.50 plus 1.19, a total of 4.69 euro. Four star is 2.60 plus 0.88, a total of 3.48 euro. Three star is 1.70 plus 0.58, a total of 2.28 euro.

Places with no star rating

Accommodation without a classification or awaiting one, which covers a great many apartments let to visitors, is charged 5 percent of the cost per person per night before tax, plus the additional 1.70 percent, so 6.70 percent in total. The sheet caps that at 6.43 euro, the palace rate.

A worked example

Two adults, six nights, a four star hotel near the Promenade. The tax is 3.48 times 2 times 6, which is 41.76 euro. The same trip in a three star hotel is 27.36 euro. In an unrated apartment at 90 euro per person per night before tax, the 6.70 percent rate gives 6.03 euro per person per night, still under the cap, so 72.36 euro for the stay.

The rate sheet is a rate sheet: it does not state which travellers are exempt, so that has to be checked separately with the métropole.
