Share your experienceGrillmarkadurinn charges 1,590 ISK for marinated olives and 2,290 ISK for honey milk bread with whipped butter, arctic thyme and lava salt. Those are the snacks, and they set the tone for the bill. The kitchen grills over charcoal and lava stone, and the Icelandic ingredients are the point: lamb, langoustine, arctic char, and game in season. The dining room is dark wood, leather and stone, in a 1912 building on Laekjargata a couple of minutes from the parliament. Iceland is expensive and this is expensive within Iceland, so go knowing that. What you get for it is the most consistently good grill cooking in the country.
What was great
Charcoal and lava-stone grilling done seriously, with Icelandic lamb and seafood that genuinely do not travel. A handsome room. Central enough to walk to from anywhere downtown.
What nearly ruined the trip
Very expensive even by Reykjavik standards, and the snack prices are a warning shot. It books out in summer. The dark, heavy room is not to every taste.
