Share your experienceAu Pied de Cochon offers a two-course menu at 19.90 euros and three courses at 26.00 euros, drinks not included. It opened in 1947 to feed the porters of Les Halles, the wholesale market that stood here until 1971, and it has essentially never shut since. That is the reason to know about it: when everything else in central Paris has closed, this has not. The house dish is the pig's trotter, breadcrumbed and grilled, which is more work than most people expect and worth ordering once. The onion soup is the other thing the market porters were eating at four in the morning.
What was great
Open when nothing else is, which in central Paris is a genuinely rare property. A two-course menu at 19.90 euros a few steps from the Louvre. Onion soup and trotters done the way the market made them.
What nearly ruined the trip
It is squarely on the tourist circuit now, and the service moves accordingly. The room is bright and busy at all hours. The trotter divides opinion sharply, and nobody should order it expecting a chop.
