Share your experienceSainte-Chapelle is a small building with one overwhelming feature: an upper chapel walled almost entirely in thirteenth-century stained glass. Admission is 22 euros, with free admission for under 26-year-old residents of the EU. That is a high price for what is, in floor area, one room. It is also close to unarguable on a bright day, because what you are paying for is a light effect no photograph reproduces and very few buildings anywhere can offer. The corollary is the honest warning. On a grey Paris afternoon the same 22 euros buys a considerably duller experience. This is the rare attraction where checking the forecast is a practical booking decision rather than fussiness.
What was great
The upper chapel is genuinely singular, and because the building is small you are not paying for corridors you will not walk. Under-26 EU residents get in free. It sits on the Ile de la Cite within minutes of Notre-Dame and the Conciergerie, so it slots into a day without a special journey.
What nearly ruined the trip
Twenty-two euros for one room is steep, and the payoff depends on sunlight, which the ticket page does not warn you about. The chapel is small enough that one tour group changes the experience. Security is airport-style because the site shares a perimeter with a working courthouse.
