Share your experienceThe Kunsthaus Zurich charges CHF 24 for adults for the collection and small exhibitions, or CHF 17 reduced, and CHF 31 for a major exhibition, CHF 22 reduced. Children and young people under 14 are admitted free. The collection is the reason to come: the largest group of Munch outside Norway, a strong Giacometti holding, Hodler, and a Chipperfield extension that doubled the gallery space in 2021. Zurich Card holders get free admission to the collection. The Chipperfield building and the original house face each other across Heimplatz and are linked underground, which means the museum is now large enough to need a plan rather than a wander.
What was great
The Munch collection, which is the biggest outside Norway, and the Giacometti rooms. Free for under-14s. The Chipperfield extension is a genuinely good gallery building. Zurich Card includes the collection.
What nearly ruined the trip
Swiss prices: CHF 31 for a major show is among the highest in Europe. The two buildings are linked underground in a way that is easy to get wrong, and the cloakroom charges CHF 4 unless you bought online.
