Share your experienceThe Warsaw Rising Museum charges 35 PLN for a normal ticket and 30 PLN discounted, with a large family card ticket at 10 PLN per person. It opens Monday and Wednesday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm, and is closed on Tuesdays. The museum covers the uprising of August and September 1944, when the Polish underground took on the German garrison expecting Soviet support that never came. Sixty-three days later the rising had failed and the city was systematically demolished in reprisal. The design is deliberately overwhelming: a beating-heart soundtrack through the whole building, a walk-through sewer of the kind the insurgents used to move between districts, and a short film reconstructing the flight over the flattened city. It does not attempt neutrality and does not pretend to.
What was great
Thirty-five zloty for one of the most powerful museums in Europe. The reconstructed sewer and the City of Ruins film are unforgettable. Opens at 8am on most weekdays, which no other major museum in Warsaw does.
What nearly ruined the trip
Dark, loud and emotionally heavy, and not remotely suitable for young children. The layout is confusing and easy to walk out of order. Closed on Tuesdays, which is not obvious to visitors used to Monday closures.
