Share your experienceNationalmuseum charges SEK 160 for adults, SEK 80 in the last 60 minutes before closing, and admits visitors under the age of 20 free. The ground floor, which includes the shop and restaurant, is free to everyone. This is Sweden's museum of art and design, reopened in 2018 after a long renovation that turned a dim nineteenth-century pile into one of the best-lit galleries in Europe. The Rembrandt and the Swedish eighteenth century are the strengths, along with a design collection that runs to the present day. The last-hour ticket at half price is unusually honest pricing, and an hour is genuinely enough for a focused visit if you know which two rooms you want.
What was great
Half price in the final hour, free under 20, and free access to the ground floor whether or not you buy a ticket. The post-renovation lighting and hanging are superb.
What nearly ruined the trip
A hundred and sixty krona is at the upper end for Stockholm. The building is large enough that a short visit feels rushed, and payment is card or Swish only, which catches cash-carrying visitors.
