What it is
A private museum in Kolonaki holding the world's largest collection of Cycladic art, alongside ancient Greek and Cypriot collections and a strong temporary exhibition programme.
Why travelers go
The Cycladic figurines are the most surprising objects in Athens: five thousand years old and unmistakably modern. No other museum has anything like this many.
What is genuinely good
Superb display and lighting, free entry for under-18s, late Thursday opening, ambitious temporary shows, and a good cafe in the atrium.
Downsides and tourist traps
Small permanent collection for the price. Closed Tuesdays. Temporary exhibitions carry a higher ticket. Kolonaki prices apply to everything nearby.
Best for
Anyone interested in sculpture or modern art, who will recognise the borrowings immediately, and families given free entry for under-18s.
Consider skipping if
You are only interested in classical Athens. The National Archaeological Museum covers that far better.
Practical advice
Thursday evening is the quietest and longest slot. Start on the Cycladic floor before the tour groups arrive, then work down. Check whether a temporary exhibition is included before buying.
Tickets and reservations
General admission 12 euros, reduced or group visit 9 euros. Free for children under 18, Cycladic Friends members, and several categories including holders of a Hellenic Ministry free entry pass. Some temporary exhibitions are priced separately at 14 euros, 11 reduced.
Getting there
Metro line 3 to Evangelismos, then a five-minute walk uphill, or a ten-minute walk from Syntagma through Kolonaki.

Kolonaki, the smart shopping and embassy quarter below Lycabettus, five minutes from the Benaki Museum and ten from Syntagma.
How long to allow
Ninety minutes, or two hours with a temporary exhibition.
Accessibility
Step-free with lifts to all floors of both the main building and the Stathatos Mansion wing.
