Casa Mila, known as La Pedrera, an apartment building on Passeig de Gracia completed by Antoni Gaudi in 1912, with a stone facade, a reconstructed period apartment, a parabolic-arched attic and a sculptural roof terrace.
For the roof terrace, which is the most purely enjoyable thing Gaudi built, and for the attic, which quietly explains the engineering behind every curve in the building.
The roof is genuinely extraordinary and the attic makes sense of the whole structure. The sunset ticket is cheaper than standard admission and is also the better time to be up there. It sits on Passeig de Gracia, so it needs no special journey.
From 29 euros for one building is steep, and Barcelona will already have taken 26 euros off you at the Sagrada Familia. The route is one-way with no doubling back. The roof is compact and feels crowded on a full slot.
Anyone interested in Gaudi or in structural engineering, photographers who can take the sunset slot, and visitors who want a second Gaudi building after the Sagrada Familia.
Your budget only covers one Gaudi ticket, in which case the Sagrada Familia is the one. Skip it also if you are content photographing the facade from the pavement, which is free and is what most people actually want.
Buy the sunset slot if your schedule allows, since it is cheaper than standard admission and puts you on the roof in the best light. Go straight up to the roof on arrival rather than working through the route in order. Book ahead; walk-up availability on Passeig de Gracia is unreliable.
La Pedrera Essential general admission starts from 29 euros. The sunset general admission slot starts from 25 euros. A night experience is also sold at a higher price.
Diagonal on Metro lines 3 and 5 is immediately outside. Passeig de Gracia on lines 2, 3 and 4 is a few minutes south.
Passeig de Gracia in the Eixample, Barcelona's grand shopping boulevard, with Casa Batllo a few blocks south and the Sagrada Familia about twenty minutes east on foot.
Around ninety minutes for the full route including the roof, apartment and attic.
Step-free throughout via a priority accessible entrance on Passeig de Gracia 92, with lifts, ramps and adapted bathrooms. A wheelchair loan service is available, and visitor services staff guide wheelchair users through the route, including the roof terrace where the surface is uneven.
Worth it for the roof, and best bought as the cheaper sunset slot. If you are only paying for one Gaudi building this trip, make it the Sagrada Familia and admire this one from the street.
