A small fish restaurant in the lanes of San Polo, Venice, serving the day's catch across about a dozen tables, with no tourist menu and no pizza.
Because it is the antidote to everything wrong with eating in Venice: it is small, hard to find, cooks what the boats brought, and refuses the entire tourist-menu apparatus.
Day-boat fish cooked simply, a tiny dining room, a kitchen that has been consistent for decades, and a location that filters out passing trade.
A 35 euro per person no-show charge. A time limit on the early seating. Very hard to find. Books out weeks ahead and shuts for a summer holiday.
Anyone who wants one serious meal in Venice, and anyone who has been burned by a menu turistico already.
You cannot book ahead, or you want a canal view. This has neither availability nor a view.
Book weeks ahead and confirm, because the no-show charge is real. Allow twenty minutes to find it and expect to get lost anyway. Take the second seating if you want an unhurried evening.

Vaporetto to San Silvestro or Rialto Mercato, then ten minutes through the lanes of San Polo. Follow the address rather than the general direction.

It is a small fish restaurant hidden in the lanes of San Polo, so hard to find that its own sign reads that you do not arrive here by chance. There is no tourist menu, no pizza…
