Nijo Castle tickets 2026: 1,300 yen for castle and palace

Nijo Castle in Kyoto charges 1,300 yen in 2026 for the grounds plus Ninomaru Palace, or 800 yen for the grounds alone, according to the castle's own fee page.

Nijo Castle charges 1,300 yen in 2026 for the combined ticket covering the castle grounds and Ninomaru Palace, according to the fee page published by the castle itself. The grounds only ticket is 800 yen. On that same page, junior high and high school students pay 400 yen and elementary school students pay 300 yen for castle admission.

The third ticket most visitors miss

Honmaru Palace is sold separately and is not covered by either ticket above. The castle's fee page lists it at 1,000 yen for adults, 300 yen for junior and senior high school students and 200 yen for elementary school students, states that advance reservations are required, and adds that a castle admission ticket is still needed on top. Group rates do not apply there, which the page attributes to protection of cultural properties.

Days that quietly cost money

The castle site gives entry from 8:45 in the morning with last admission at 4:00 and closing at 5:00. The whole site closes 29 to 31 December. Ninomaru Palace closes 26 to 28 December and 1 to 3 January plus selected Tuesdays. Honmaru Palace closes the third Monday of every month and the day after.

What a couple pays

Two adults on the combined castle and Ninomaru ticket pay 2,600 yen. Adding Honmaru Palace for both takes it to 4,600 yen, and that second part has to be reserved before arrival rather than bought at the gate.

The fee page does not spell out whether student rates apply to the combined ticket or only to plain castle admission, so a family should budget the adult figure if unsure.
