Share your experienceSt Paul's charges 27 pounds per adult and 10.50 per child for Monday to Saturday sightseeing, with discounts for families and groups. Sunday is a day of worship rather than sightseeing, which catches a lot of visitors out. The cathedral floor is impressive and the crypt holds Nelson and Wellington, but the thing that makes the ticket worth it is the climb. The Whispering Gallery, then the Stone Gallery, then the Golden Gallery, each higher and each with a better view, ending on an external walkway around the dome with London laid out underneath. If you cannot or would rather not climb several hundred steps, you are paying full price for perhaps half the experience, and that is worth knowing before you book.
What was great
The dome galleries give one of the best views in London and the climb is a genuine experience rather than a lift ride. Wren's interior is magnificent on its own terms, and the crypt is a serious historical stop. Child admission at 10.50 pounds is reasonable, with family and group discounts available.
What nearly ruined the trip
Twenty-seven pounds is steep, and the best part of it is a 528-step climb that excludes a lot of visitors. Sightseeing is Monday to Saturday only, so a Sunday arrival cannot do the paid visit at all. The upper galleries are narrow and can feel uncomfortable when busy.
