Share your experienceChapter One charges 95 euros for a three-course lunch and 150 euros for the surprise tasting menu, with an additional selection of artisan cheeses at 29 euros. It sits in the basement of the Dublin Writers Museum on Parnell Square, which gives it low ceilings, thick walls and none of the glass-box quality that afflicts restaurants at this level. The cooking is French technique applied to Irish produce, and it has held Michelin recognition for over two decades. The lunch menu is the value proposition here. Ninety-five euros is a great deal of money and is also roughly two thirds of what the same kitchen costs in the evening.
What was great
Cooking at the top of the Irish market. A basement dining room with genuine atmosphere rather than designed neutrality. Lunch at 95 euros, which is the cheapest way into this kitchen.
What nearly ruined the trip
It is very expensive whichever menu you take. The cheese supplement at 29 euros on top of a 95 euro lunch is steep. Parnell Square north is a quieter and scruffier part of the city than the price suggests.
