Share your experienceThe Museo Frida Kahlo charges 320 pesos for general admission, 160 pesos for Mexican residents with official identification, 60 pesos for students and teachers with a valid card, and 30 pesos for seniors and children aged 6 to 12. There is no ticket office: everything is bought online. The Casa Azul is the house Kahlo was born in, lived in with Diego Rivera, and died in, and it is kept as a house rather than converted into a gallery. The kitchen, the studio, the wheelchair at the easel and the bed with the mirror above it do more than any wall text. It is closed on Mondays, opens at 11:00 on Wednesdays and at 10:00 on other days, and it is small, so the timed slots sell out well ahead.
What was great
The house itself, preserved rather than staged. The studio and the bedroom, which are genuinely affecting. The garden, which is a rare quiet space in Coyoacan.
What nearly ruined the trip
Three hundred and twenty pesos is the highest museum price in Mexico City and roughly double what residents pay. No tickets at the door means an unplanned visit is impossible. The rooms are small and the timed slots still feel crowded.
