Share your experienceMALBA charges 12,000 pesos for general admission on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and 6,000 pesos for students, teachers and pensioners with accreditation. On Wednesdays general admission is 6,000 pesos. Children under 5 enter free. The collection is Latin American art of the twentieth century, and it is the best of its kind: Frida Kahlo's Self-portrait with Monkey and Parrot, Diego Rivera, Tarsila do Amaral's Abaporu, Antonio Berni, Xul Solar. Argentina has a habit of exporting its artists, and this is where the argument for keeping them is made. The building in Palermo is a clean, light 2001 design that does not fight the work, and there is a cinema on the first floor running during normal museum hours.
What was great
The strongest twentieth-century Latin American collection anywhere, half price on Wednesdays, and a building that gets out of the way. The cinema programme is genuinely good and separately ticketed.
What nearly ruined the trip
The permanent collection is not large and can be walked in an hour. Argentine prices move fast, so anything printed about the cost is out of date quickly. Palermo puts it a taxi or a long walk from the centre.
