Share your experienceWestminster Abbey charges 31 pounds for adult sightseeing admission, with over-65s and students at 28 pounds, children aged 6 to 17 at 14 pounds and under-6s free. That is a lot of money for a church, and the abbey knows it. What you get for it is the coronation church of the English and British monarchy, the burial place of monarchs, and Poets' Corner, which is a denser concentration of literary graves and memorials than anywhere else in the world. The honest caveat is that the visit is heavily routed. You follow a set path through a crowded building, and the pace is set by the people in front of you. It rewards knowing in advance which three or four things you want to stand in front of.
What was great
The building holds a genuinely unmatched concentration of English history, and Poets' Corner alone justifies a long look. Children aged 6 to 17 pay 14 pounds and under-6s are free, and attending a service costs nothing at all, which is the route most people never consider.
What nearly ruined the trip
Thirty-one pounds is a steep admission and the route through is crowded and one-directional, so lingering is difficult. Photography restrictions apply in much of the building. Prices also vary by date, so the figure you are quoted depends on when you go.
