Admission to the Rijksmuseum costs 25 euros for an adult in 2026, according to the museum's own visit page, and anyone aged 18 and under gets in free. That free age band is unusually generous for a major European museum.
The booking rule that costs people the day
The museum states that booking a start time is required for a visit, and that this applies to everyone, including Museumkaart holders. Turning up with a valid pass and no time slot is not enough. On busy days the early slots go first, so the real cost of skipping the booking step is either a long wait or a change of plan.
Opening days
The Rijksmuseum is open every day between 9am and 5pm, including all public holidays. There is no weekly closing day, which removes the usual Monday trap that catches visitors elsewhere in Europe.
Worked example
A couple pays 50 euros. Two adults with two teenagers aged 18 and 15 also pay 50 euros, because both children are free. A family with three children under 19 still pays only the two adult tickets, which makes the museum one of the cheapest large attractions in Amsterdam for families.
Still unclear: the visit page quotes a single 25 euro figure and does not show whether temporary exhibitions carry a supplement.
