Istanbul accommodation tax 2026: 1 percent until 31 December

The accommodation tax on a hotel night in Istanbul is 1 percent in 2026. The explanatory note published by the Turkish Revenue Administration on presidential decision 11263 says the rate in the fifth paragraph of article 34 of law 6802 was redetermined as 1 percent until 31 December 2026, that date included.

How the cut happened

The decision is dated 30 April 2026 and was published in the official gazette, issue 33240, on 1 May 2026. The note gives the legal basis and the end date. It does not set out the mechanics of collection, which sit in the general communique on the accommodation tax published separately by the same administration.

What a stay costs in 2026

A room at 4,000 lira per night carries 40 lira of accommodation tax, so three nights adds 120 lira. A suite at 10,000 lira a night adds 100 lira per night. Because the tax is a percentage and not a flat nightly charge, it scales with what you book, and on a normal Istanbul city break it is a minor line rather than a real cost.

What is still unclear

The reduction is written to expire on 31 December 2026 and the note says nothing about what applies from 1 January 2027, so a stay booked into next year may not be taxed at 1 percent.
