Buzios 2026: 23 beaches, three hours from Rio, still the easy one

Armação dos Búzios, often spelled Buzios, is the peninsula east of Rio with 23 beaches, Orla Bardot, and a bus from Novo Rio that still starts around 19 US dollars. It is the Brazilian beach town that is actually simple.
If you meant Bouziou, the place is Buzios: Armação dos Búzios, a 71 square kilometre peninsula about 170 kilometres east of Rio de Janeiro. Brigitte Bardot's 1964 visit is the origin story, and it is not a myth. The town is still small, still about beaches, and still the easiest coastal reset after Rio.
Why it works
Twenty-three beaches sit on an eight kilometre peninsula. Geriba is the surf beach. Azeda and Azedinha are the calm coves. Joao Fernandes is the postcard. Rua das Pedras and Orla Bardot are the evening walk. Schooner trips along the coast are the default afternoon, commonly in the 20 to 40 US dollar range for a couple of hours. You can walk a lot of it. Cooperative vans along Avenida Jose Bento Ribeiro Dantas are about 5 reals if you wave them down.
How to get there
Skip the tiny general-aviation airstrip unless you have a reason. Fly into Rio (GIG or SDU), then take Autoviacao 1001 from Rodoviaria Novo Rio. The ride is about 3 hours 10 minutes to 3 hours 50 minutes. Recent one-way fares have been in the 19 to 32 US dollar range. Driving is about three hours depending on traffic out of the city.
Winter (June to September) is drier and milder. Shoulder months are quieter and cheaper. January through March is heat, rain, and Brazilian holiday prices. Pair it with Rio. City page: Buzios.
