Robben Island tickets 2026: 600 rand for a non South African adult
by RuinMyTrip Editorial · 2d ago
Robben Island charges 600 rand an adult and 310 a child for non South Africans in 2026, against 400 and 210 for South Africans, with a walking tour priced far higher.
A standard Robben Island tour costs 600 rand for a non South African adult in 2026, according to the museum's own site.
Two price lists
The museum runs one set of prices for South Africans and another for everyone else. The standard tour is 400 rand an adult and 210 for a child under 18 for South Africans, and 600 an adult and 310 a child for non South Africans. Departures are listed at 09:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 daily, and booking goes through the museum's own system.
The walking tour costs more than double
A separate walking tour runs Friday to Sunday between 09:00 and 14:30 and is priced at 1,000 rand an adult and 620 a child for South Africans, and 1,400 an adult and 820 a child for everyone else. The museum lists a free cap and water bottle with it. Anyone clicking through the booking flow without reading which product they are on can land on the expensive one by accident, since both start from the same page.
Worked example
A visiting family of two adults and two children under 18 pays 1,820 rand for the standard tour. The same family on the walking tour pays 4,440 rand, a difference of 2,620 rand for the same island on the same day.
Still unclear: the site publishes departure times but not what happens to the money when sea conditions stop a sailing, which is worth asking before paying.
